Rain Water Harvesting Pit
The Government Degree College for Women, Srikalahasti, has taken a significant step toward promoting environmental sustainability by constructing a rainwater harvesting pit within the college campus. This initiative aims to conserve water, reduce wastage, and sensitize students to the importance of sustainable natural resource management.
The rainwater harvesting pit is designed to collect rainwater from the rooftops and open areas of the campus. The collected water percolates through gravel and sand layers, helping recharge the groundwater table and maintain the ecological balance. This system not only minimizes surface runoff and soil erosion but also ensures the effective utilization of natural rainfall, especially during the monsoon season.
The project serves as a practical learning model for students, particularly those studying Environmental Science and Geography, by providing them with hands-on exposure to eco-friendly technologies. Faculty members and students actively participated in the implementation and maintenance of the system, reflecting the college’s commitment to green practices and community responsibility.
