Attainment of POs, PSOs and Cos
The institution has a well-structured mechanism to assess the attainment of Course Outcomes (COs), Program Outcomes (POs), and Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs). The process is carried out through direct and indirect assessment methods, ensuring continuous and comprehensive evaluation.
1. Direct Methods of Assessment
-
Internal Examinations: Two internal tests are conducted in each semester. The performance of students in these tests is mapped with the respective COs. Each question in the examination is aligned with measurable course outcomes.
-
University Examinations: End-semester examinations conducted by the affiliating university form a major component of direct assessment. The students’ performance is mapped to the intended COs, which are further linked to POs and PSOs.
-
Assignments and Class Tests: Home assignments, classroom exercises, and subject-specific tasks are regularly given. The results are analyzed to assess the achievement of COs.
-
Seminars, Presentations, and Group Discussions: These are organized for all students, helping faculty evaluate communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
2. Indirect Methods of Assessment
-
Feedback Mechanism: Student feedback, alumni feedback, and employer feedback are collected to measure the relevance of the curriculum and the effectiveness of CO, PO, and PSO attainment.
-
Participation in Co-curricular and Extra-curricular Activities: Activities like quiz competitions, debates, workshops, and cultural events are conducted, through which behavioral and attitudinal outcomes are assessed.
-
Peer Interaction: Group discussions and teamwork activities are used to evaluate students’ collaborative and interpersonal skills.
3. Methods of Measurement
-
Formative Evaluation:
-
Continuous and comprehensive evaluation through internal tests, assignments, and classroom participation.
-
Observation of student performance in group discussions, seminars, and practicals.
-
-
Summative Evaluation:
-
University-conducted end-semester/annual examinations.
-
Department-wise analysis of results, including postgraduate courses, to understand levels of PO and PSO attainment.
-
4. Attainment Analysis
-
The attainment levels of COs are determined from the performance of students in internal and university examinations.
-
The mapping of COs to POs/PSOs is carried out at the department level.
-
Result analysis is regularly undertaken after internal and external examinations.
-
Strategies for improvement (remedial classes, mentoring, bridge courses, additional assignments, and extra coaching) are implemented based on analysis.
-
For internal exams, a maximum of 25 marks is allotted and analyzed separately.
5. Role of Academic Committees
-
Each department prepares a detailed analysis of results and attainment levels of COs, POs, and PSOs.
-
The Academic Committee reviews the consolidated data at the end of each semester and concludes the overall attainment level of Program Outcomes.
-
Corrective measures and best practices for enhancement of learning outcomes are recommended and implemented.
6. Continuous Improvement
-
Based on the assessment reports, departments adopt strategies for continuous improvement such as:
-
Organizing remedial and special classes.
-
Motivating students to participate in skill development and certificate courses.
-
Conducting co-curricular and extension activities for holistic development.
-
Thus, the institution ensures that the attainment of COs leads to the attainment of POs and PSOs, thereby aligning with the vision and mission of the college and preparing students with the desired knowledge, skills, and competencies.
