Women Empowerment Cell

Women's empowerment is the process of empowering women. Empowerment can be defined in many ways, however, when talking about women's empowerment, empowerment means accepting and allowing people (women) who are on the outside of the decision-making process into it. Women’s empowerment is the most crucial point to be noted for the overall development of a country. Empowerment includes the action of raising the status of women through education, raising awareness, literacy, and training. Women's empowerment is all about equipping and allowing women to make life-determining decisions through the different problems in society

VISION:

To empower women to realize their potential and compete for equal opportunities in building a successful home and career.

MISSION:

  • To uplift the girls socially and intellectually, the cell conducts various awareness camps- health, legal, entrepreneurship, defense techniques, etc in order to equip them with the right knowledge for a life of equality, empowerment, personal enhancement and professional success.

  • To empower them in raising their voice against Gender Discrimination/Injustice/Violence

  • To provide a platform for girls and women to share their experiences and views regarding their status in the society and to suggest ways to improve and empower themselves.

GYM & SPORTS CENTRE

It is a covered location, commonly found in Athletic and Fitness centers. It also acts as learning space in some educational institutions and or provides recreational activities in addition to fitness purpose.

                       Our college has it’s gym in the department of Physical Education building with a few electrical equipments like Crazy fitmassage, Ab fat vibrator  besides other gym equipment like stationary cycles, weight training items etc. Students during Physical Educational hours or after college normal timings, use the centre.

HEALTH CENTRE

For the purpose of health ,Physical, mental fitness and recreation to students and staff , college provides outdoor games and indoor games like Badminton, Chess, Caroms, Table Tennis  besides gym equipment . Students make use of it to their best extent.

DRC (District Resource Centre)

Most of the Government Degree Colleges in the State are located in rural and semi urban areas and these mostly serve students from poor and underprivileged sections of the society. The students of colleges located in rural areas face disadvantages like infrastructural and teacher shortages, lack of exposure to modern educational atmosphere and inadequate background support. To overcome these problems, the Government Degree Colleges in each district, were networked with identified Government Degree College in the district, called the District Resource Centre (DRC) to support mainly the rural students

The main Objectives of the DRC include:

  • Identifying the subject and student needs and shortages

  • Pooling and sharing the human resources as well as material resources for the benefit of all students, especially the rural students

  • District-level seminars, workshops etc. for the teachers for improving their awareness and skills in teaching

  • A variety of district-level regular programmes, workshops and summer programmes for students from all the colleges of the district, in areas such as subjects, skills, career, employment etc.

  • Strengthening the existing infrastructural, material and human resources

RRC:

Red Ribbon Club is a movement started by the Government of India in schools and colleges through which, students will spread awareness over HIV / AIDS.

Objectives:

  • To provide a platform for strengthening the responses to HIV among the diverse populations.

  • To increase global awareness of the continuing impact of HIV and AIDS.

About the Career Guidance Cell

Career Guidance Cell of the institution provides information on the various career opportunities after graduation according to their course of study. Besides that counseling sessions are organized to enable them to learn new concepts and skills for their personal and career development. In the library a separate section is allotted for the books.to prepare for PGCET Exams and Government Jobs. The Faculty of the Institution also focuses on shaping the students for their future career by giving suggestions and answering the queries of students to reach their set goals. Arrange guest lectures by inviting the eminent resource persons of various fields.

SCHOLARSHIP

Jagananna Vidya Deevana

The scheme was launched to financially assist students hailing from poor social and economic backgrounds by reimbursing their total fee. The scheme covers students pursuing ITI, polytechnic, degree, B Tech, MBA, MCA, pharmacy and other courses. Under this scheme, Government of Andhra Pradesh deposits money into the accounts of beneficiary's mother every three months. State government has made 75% attendance as mandatory to avail the scheme.

Jagananna Vidya Deevena was announced by state's Information and Public Relations minister Perni Venkataramaiah (Nani) on 27 November 2019 with a budget of 3400 crores per year. It benefits 11,87,904 students from the poor households of the state. Chief minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy officially launched the scheme on 24 February 2020. For the academic year of 2020–21, 671.45 crores were deposited in the accounts of 10,88,439 beneficiary's mothers in the first installment and 693.81 crores were deposited in the second installment benefiting 10.97 lakh students. As of April 2021, The total of 4,879 crores were spent for the scheme.

Consumer Club

The Student Consumer Club facilitates the need for creating consumer awareness among students.  The club activities will include awareness programs about Consumer Responsibilities & Rights, Food Safety (Food Adulteration, Food Nutrition, Food Preservatives, and Food Contamination), Hospitals and Patients Rights, Transport, Insurance, Consumer Durables, Digital Technologies and Consumer Protection Act.

  • Prepares the student to face the world with confidence backed by knowledge

  • Create awareness about consumer laws and equip the students with life skills enabling them to lead better lives

  • Spread awareness about the rights and responsibilities of Citizens and Consumers as provided in the Constitution of India, Consumer Protection Act, 2013 and other Indian Laws.

  • To enable children, students and self help groups to work together as a team with local communities and develop in to caring, responsible and honest citizens.

  • Mobilize and instill right-consciousness, confidence to question violations of citizen and consumer rights and fight for justice.

  • Impart knowledge about real life situations and to enable to development of skills to handle citizen and consumer issues.

  • Instill concern for environment around us as citizens and consumers and sustainable consumption habits.


DUTIES OF A MEMBER:

  •  To treat all fellow citizens with care, concern and responsibility.

CONSUMER RIGHTS VIOLATION

Consumers in India are largely ignorant of rules, laws and codes. They are also unaware of their rights. A vast majority are also illiterates in many backward districts and states. Hence, dishonest producers and retailers cheat such unsuspecting and ignorant people without difficulty. Hence, consumer welfare is in a state far from desirable. National Service Scheme (NSS)

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It provides opportunity to the student youth of 11th & 12th Class of schools at +2 Board level and student youth of Technical Institution, Graduate & Post Graduate at colleges and University level of India to take part in various government led community service activities & programmes. The sole aim of the NSS is to provide hands on experience to young students in delivering community service. In Government Degree College(W) Srikalahasti has two NSS Units.

DIGITAL INITIATIVES IN HIGHER EDUCATION

  1. Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds(SWAYAM)

SWAYAM is an indigenous (Made in India) IT Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) Platform for providing the best quality education that can be accessed by anyone, anytime and anywhere using the IT system.

The Concept of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) involves online delivery of interactive learning content to large number of people simultaneously. It allows sharing of best quality education with everyone, thereby bringing in equity as far as the quality of education is concerned.

SWAYAM platform is developed by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) with the help of Microsoft .

  1. National Digital Library (NDL)

Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) under its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT) has initiated the National Digital Library of India (NDL India) pilot project to develop a framework of virtual repository of learning resources with a single-window search facility.

The Project titled “Development of National Digital Library of India, Towards Building a National Asset” has been sanctioned to IIT, Kharagpur under NMEICT by MHRD.

NDL is the Single Window Platform that collects and collates metadata from premier learning institutions in India and abroad, as well as other relevant sources. It is a digital repository containing textbooks, articles, videos, audio books, lectures, simulations, fiction and all other kinds of learning media.

The ‘Information and Library Network’ (INFLIBNET) Centre took the initiative called “Vidwan: Expert Database and National Researcher’s Network” with the financial support from NMEICT.

Anti Ragging

Andhra Pradesh Prohibition of Ragging in All Educational Institutions 

“Ragging” means any disorderly conduct whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing treating or handling with rudeness any other student, indulging in rowdy or indiscipline activities which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or raise fear or apprehension thereof in a fresher or junior student or asking the students to do any act or perform something which such student will not do in the ordinary course and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame of embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of a fresher or junior student. The cause of indulging in ragging is deriving a sadistic pleasure or showing of power, authority or superiority by the seniors over their juniors or freshers. Most of the above orders of the seniors constituting perverse actions are illustrative or ragging but not exhaustive. Any other related acts would also form ragging attracting severe punitive action.

Responsibility  of the Head of the Institution.—

(1) At the commencement of the Academic session/ the Institution should constitute a proctorial committee consisting of senior faculty members and hostel authorities like the warden and a few responsible senior students :— (i) to keep a continuous watch and vigil over ragging so as to prevent its occurrence and recurrence; (ii) to promptly deal with the incidents of ragging brought to its notice and summarily punish the guilty either by itself or by putting-forth its finding/ recommendation/suggestions before the authority competent to take decision. All vulnerable locations shall be identified and specially watched. 

(2) The local community and the students in particular must be made aware of dehumanising effect of ragging inherent in its perversity. Posters, notice boards and sign-boards wherever necessary, may be used for the purpose. 

(3) Failure to prevent ragging shall be construed as an act of negligence in maintaining discipline in the institution on the part of the management, the principal and the persons in authority of the institution. Similar responsibility shall be liable to be fixed on hostel wardens/superintendents. 

(4) Whenever any student complains of ragging to the Head of the Educational Institution such head or manager shall enquire into the same forthwith and if the complaint is prima facie found true, shall suspend the student or students complained against for such period as may be deemed necessary.

 (5) The decision of the head of the institution or the person responsible for the management of the educational institution is final. 

(6) If an institution fails to curb ragging, the Funding Agency shall consider for stoppage of financial assistance to such an institution till such time as achieves the same. The University shall consider disaffiliating a college or Institution failing to curb ragging. All Universities shall bring these guidelines to the notice of all educational institutions under their control and jurisdiction. Publicity may also be given by press notes in public interest by Universities.
