DEPARTMENT OF Zoology

Zoology makes a huge impact on our world through the scientific study of the evolution, anatomy, physiology, behaviour, habitats, and health of animals and humans. It includes diverse approaches such as electron microscopy, molecular genetics, and field ecology.

Students will be able to explain how organisms function at the level of the gene, genome, cell, tissue, organ and organ-system. Drawing upon this knowledge, they will be able to give specific examples of the physiological adaptations, development, reproduction and behavior of different forms of life.

Zoology is important because it helps humans to understand how they are affecting other animals. Changes in animal behavior can affect the growth of their bodies and therefore affect how they interact with their environment. In addition, zoologists determine if animals are in danger of becoming extinct.
